A “Christian version of MySpace”

Haven’t had too many seminar participants voice concerns over the obvious yuckiness of certain parts of the MySpace universe, but, just in case, here’s a self-proclaimed Christian version of MySpace that may end up featured less on 20/20…

  1. I can’t say MySpace is a good place for e-fundraising, but it is a GREAT place for evangelism. People are regularly talking about their lives, and what they think about the world, and this opens the door to spiritual conversations. I use GoogleAlerts to monitor for new posts that include the phrase “Good Person”. It tells sends me an email whenever a new blog post, containing the words “Good Person” anywhere comes online. I immediately jump on the MySpace posts. Since they are talking in some way about “good person” it provides an opening for me to bring up the Good Person Test, based on the Ten Commandments. It shows them they are a sinner in need of a savior. Then I send them to the online interactive Good Person Test at http://www.911christ.com.

I totally agree. There are so many people out here in cyberspace who need the message of Jesus Christ! I am trying to reach people through my blog as well. http://suzy91w.wordpress.com/

Check it out and let me know what you think!

I enjoyed your e-fundraising seminar in the Portland Area. It raised a question in my mind: Do you have a suggestion for the title’s we bear in our interaction with donors? We call ourselves Donor Relations, Donor Development etc. What better terminology can you suggest, if any?
BTW, as a result of your seminar we launched blogs for each of our key mission locations and are revamping our Web site. Thanks for all the information! See us at http://www.forwardedge.org. Here’s a blog about my daughters trip to Kenya.

    Hi April!

Thanks for your kind words about the seminar–and it’s great to see you working to apply what we discussed to your blogs. You ask a great question about terminology in this new approach, and there are certainly a range of options with no one right or wrong answer. I tend to like Director of Communication (not Communications) myself, as in essence we are facilitating communication between and among our network of champions. Plus it makes it so we’re not defining the champion only in relation to their being a human ATM machine out of which our organization makes periodic withdrawals! 🙂
